The Old Kallang Airport premises which has remained vacant for years will finally get a makeover after being selected for redevelopment as part of the Kallang Master Plan 2019
SLA had engaged stakeholders in March 2020 on ideas for development of the Old Kallang Airport
During a parliament session on questions raised by Mr Christopher De Souza in Feb 2020 on the plans ahead for vacant state properties, Senior Minister of State Mr Edwin Tong announced that SLA is ramping up efforts to collaborate with the public on the use of vacant state land and properties - one such property being the Old Kallang Airport.
However, with the onset of Covid-19 in the year 2020, the plans on opening the tender for bids and concepts for Old Kallang Airport had been temporarily put on hold until this present date.
Mixed-used Lifestyle Hub
Despite the halt in development plans for the Old Kallang Airport, the URA Master Plan 2019 has clearly outlined the government's plans for this building, and Kallang as a whole. Dubbed "Kallang River: River of Life Connecting People, Places and Memories" Master Plan, Kallang Riverside will undergo a transformation and development into a lifestyle hub.
According to the URA Master Plan website, the Old Kallang Airport will be conserved and in the interim, be first made available for a variety of sports, leisure and community uses. From our recent photo below taken in April 2022, signs of the building being conserved and repaired is ongoing and this points to signs that development works are indeed happening to this site as we speak.
This development is a good sign for the neighbouring properties around the Old Kallang Airport area, including the HDB estates of Kallang Trivista, Kallang Heights and Boon Keng Ville as it is just a stone's throw away from this development zone. When fully developed, we expect property prices to rise for the neighbouring flats. Stay tuned for more updates!
